Suspended coat cabinets: custom steel systems between function and architecture

Suspended coat cabinets, bespoke steel furniture, and technical detailing become tools for spatial organization and architectural identity.

Design means connecting, not dividing. In this project in a private residence, the goal was to create a transitional zone capable of organizing movement without interrupting visual continuity. The suspended coat cabinets become the core architectural element: functional components that take on a scenographic role, shaping space through lightness and precision.

Suspended steel cabinets and bespoke metal furniture: formal control and design coherence

The coat cabinets are not simple storage units, but lightweight architectural structures that define spatial order. Designed with concealed hinges recessed into the wooden base and top through precision milling, they eliminate visual interference and ensure formal continuity.

In dialogue with them, the custom stools – crafted from 20×20 mm tubular steel with circular seats and bases cut by laser – introduce a controlled geometric language. The cylindrical umbrella stands, formed through welded steel tubes with diameters of 21 mm and 14 mm, add a softer variation that modulates the rhythm of the composition.

Each element follows a shared architectural grammar based on proportion, construction precision, and systemic integration.

Steel and technical finishes: material as a design decision

Material is not a coating, it is a deliberate architectural choice. For the coat cabinets, 8×8 mm square perforated sheet metal was selected to ensure visual permeability and lightness without compromising structural stability.

Steel was chosen for its reliability and its ability to dialogue with contemporary architecture. The powder-coated rust-effect finish recalls the aesthetic of corten steel while overcoming its technical limitations, ensuring durability and long-term performance control.

The surface gains depth and vibrancy, transforming functional elements into architectural devices. A project where structure, detailing, and finish integrate seamlessly to create coherent, rational, and technically advanced interiors.
